From the opening tip to Ricky Franklin’s game-tying shot at the end of regulation, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee faithful were filled with the feeling they might just be able to pull off an improbable upset against 10th-ranked Butler University.
That feeling came crashing down when Pete Campbell hit a three to start Butler’s overtime, and the Bulldogs never looked back.
Led by the play of senior guard Mike Green (24 points, 13 boards, eight assists), Butler was able to overcome a ruckus crowd at “the Cell” and an inspired UWM team that was coming off back-to-back road losses.
Quick notes:
-Marcus Skinner had a career-high in scoring with 25 points. His previous high was 16.
-Allen Hanson had a season-high 18 points and was just one off tying his career best.
-UWM started the game 9-12 (75%) from the floor, but finished 25-63 (39.7%)
-This is the Panthers third straight loss after having a winning streak of 9-of-10.
